We left charleston this morning around 10:30 or so after eating wafflehouse. The beginning was rough with a sidewind and getting acquainted with our gear. My legs became weighed down with lactic acid but quick water breaks and a granola bar helped profoundly and we kept on truckin'. Nate got the first flat tire of the trip a little after lunch. We pulled over on the end of a driveway and replaced the tube. From this experience we can say that slime tubes have no advantage that we can see, unless of course you wanted to throw a nickelodeon themed cycling party. The hole just kind of oozed and squirted green pus when you tried to pump it, it was kind of gross. Morale was low until we watched as a saint wielding two ice cold water bottles in a pickup truck floated down the driveway. "flat tire?" he asked "flat tire." i explained at the same time through the truck window. He nodded, gave us water and said goodbye as his truck headed back for the house.
